Rice senior volleyball player Natalie Bogan has been selected to COBRA Magazine's All-National First Team.
A middle blocker from Oakland, Calif., Bogan was named to the All-Conference USA First Team for the second straight year in leading the Owls with a .345 hitting percentage. The team's co-captain ranked second on the squad with 371 kills and 3.25 kills per set. She concluded her career ranked seventh in school history with 1,326 kills.
Rice in 2009, under sixth-year head coach Genny Volpe, posted a 23-9 record and won its first-ever Conference USA Volleyball Championship. The Owls also played in the NCAA Championship for the second-consecutive year and third time overall.
COBRA Magazine (www.cobramag.t83.net) is the first publication that showcases the talents of black volleyball players. Its first four issues featured players such as three-time National Champion Alisha Glass of Penn State, Canadian National Team member Tasha Holness and SEC Player of the Year Brittnee Cooper.
COBRA's goal is to tell inspiring stories of black volleyball players that show young African American players that they too have opportunities to thrive in the sport despite cultural differences and economic disadvantages.
