
Rice Travels to Baylor Intercollegiate

The Rice men's tennis team will play in its third event in as many weeks as the Owls travel to the ninth annual Baylor HEB Intercollegiate this weekend at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Fresh off winning the 10th Annual Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Rice senior Bruno Rosa is one of 14 nationally-ranked players in this weekend's field. Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovvesov is the tournament's highest-ranked player by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at No. 1. Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann is ranked No. 19 while Rosa is No. 22.
In his fifth match in three days, Rosa had to come from a set down in two matches to capture the championship at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. He beat Texas' Josh Zavala in the finals 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
This year's field includes 23 teams with over 110 student-athletes participating. Rice is one of two Conference USA programs participating, joining Tulsa. The field also includes six Big 12 schools - Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Texas. The Big 10, Southeastern Conference and Mountain West will also be represented at the tournament.
Rounding out the tournament field is Air Force, Arkansas, Abilene Christian, Denver, New Mexico State, Oklahoma Christian, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Louisiana-Lafayette, UNLV, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
Tournament play begins Friday with the championships slated for Sunday in Waco.
