Midland, Texas -The tournament's No. 1 seeded player, Bruno Rosa, won back to back singles against Texas-Arlington's Dmitry Minkin in straight sets and Oklahoma's Ionut Beleleu to reach the quarterfinals. Junior Oscar Podlewski beat Texas Tech's David Gonzalez and then upset the sixth seed, Vasko Mladenov, of Texas 7-6 6-4 to earn a spot in the final eight.
Dennis Polyakov lost in the first round against Blake Boswell of OU 6-3 6-1 and Sam Garforth-Bles lost to Abilene Christian's Luke Hawk 6-1 3-6 7-6. Both players will be competing in the consolation draw tomorrow.
In doubles action, Polyakov and Garforth-Bles beat Horny and Bley from Baylor 8-4 while Podlewski and Rosa lost to Texas A&M's Lewis and Lunt 8-5 in the first round.
