Running back Charles Ross, tight end Vance McDonald and cornerback Kevin Gaddis have been named to the 2009 Conference USA All Freshmen Football team as selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. The results of the voting were released by the conference office on Tuesday.
Ross led all C-USA freshmen with 11 rushing touchdowns, and led the Owls with 491 yards rushing. He is first true freshman to lead Rice in rushing since Trevor Cobb in 1989. He closed out his freshman year by topping 100 yards rushing for the first time, finishing with 105 yards against Houston.
McDonald caught 12 passes for 118 yards in his first season with the Owls. Gaddis moved into the starting lineup for the final four games of the year and collected 17 of his 22 tackles, along with recovering a fumble, intercepting one pass and breaking up two others.
