The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced its 2009 AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball and for the second consecutive year Rice setter Meredith Schamun was honored as Honorable Mention All-America. It marks the third straight season that a Rice Owl has been named Honorable Mention All-America.
A junior from Murrieta, Calif., Schamun led Conference USA in assists (11.95 assists per set; ranks among the top 10 nation-wide) and she was named as Conference USA Championship MVP, Conference USA Co-Setter of the Year, and was also selected to the All-Conference USA First Team.
Schamun's 1,374 assists in 2009 is the fifth-highest total at Rice. In only three seasons of action, she already ranks third on the Rice career assists list with 3,988 assists.
