Rice University volleyball player Jessie Boulavsky has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America first team as announced by CoSIDA.
Boulavsky's Owls recently won the 2009 C-USA Tournament and will participate in the 2009 NCAA Championship in December. The senior outside hitter is a two-time ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI first team selection and owns a 4.0 GPA in psychology and pre-med. The Houston, Texas, native also earned C-USA All-Academic merits and was named the 2009 Rice Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
On the court, Boulavsky has totaled 228 kills (2.26 kps) and is second on the squad with a .278 attack percentage. She also earned a spot on the Mizuno Invitational All-Tournament Team earlier this season.
She is Rice volleyball's fourth CoSIDA Academic All-America recipient. Previous winners were Gwen Johnson (1986-first team; 1987-first team), Darcy Cruikshank (1995-second team; 1996-first team), and Catherine DuPont (2002-third team; 2003-third team; 2004-first team). Jessie is also Rice's 79th CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree.
The Owls are 22-8 and recently captured their first-ever Conference USA Championship to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
Jessie is the daughter of Michael and Jacqueline Boulavsky and is a graduate of Clear Brook High School.
