Rice Doubles Teams Advances to Quarterfinals

AUSTIN - Rice University's Jonathan Chang and Christian Saravia both advanced to quarterfinal play in the Singles B Draw and were part of doubles teams to also advance Friday at the Texas Invitational.
Chang and Saravia will take on players from St. Edward's Saturday morning at 8:30 in the quarterfinals. Chang will play Ryan Wiggins while Saravia will play Brett Williams.
Chang advanced with a 6-1, 6-2 win over St. Edward's Jonathan Stockdale and a 6-1, 6-1 win over Laredo Community College's Mateus Campos. Saravia opened tournament play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Texas A&M's Patrick Dean then beat St. Edward's Mick Walter 6-1, 7-6 (6).
Chang teamed with Isamu Tachibana to advance to the doubles quarterfinals. The tandem defeated Texas-San Antonio's Jorge Delgado and Sharig Khan 8-2 then beat Texas' Chris Camillone and Ben Chen 8-3. They will play the Texas team of Alex Hilliard and Daniel Whitehead Saturday at 1 p.m.
Saravia teamed with Michael Nusslein for an 8-2 win over Texas-Arlington's Gonzalo Biezobas and Adam Srkala. Saravia and Nusslein will face Texas' Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico, the draw's number-two seeded team, Saturday at 1.
In the Main Singles Draw, Tachibana defeated Texas-Arlington's Mindaugas Celedinas 6-4, 6-3 before being eliminated in the Round of 16 by Texas' Vasil Mladenov 6-3, 7-6.
Nusslen came from behind to beat Marquette's Otavio Perim 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 before suffering a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Texas' Hilliard.
