- Rice captains for the Vanderbilt game were SAF Andrew Sendejo, RB Jeramy Goodson, PK Clark Fangmeier and DE Cheta Ozougwu. Rice won the toss and elected to receive. Tulsa defended the north goal.
- Rice registered a season-high five sacks in the game, they had five vs. SMU in 2006, their most since they registered nine vs. Houston on September 5, 2004 at Reliant Stadium.
- Scott Solomon was credited with a career-best three sacks and a career-high 11 tackles (his previous career mark was nine vs. Houston in 2007). With three sacks in the first half, Solomon raised his career total to 13, and needs one more to move into a tie with Matt Sign (1989-92) and Courtney Gordon (2003-06) for fourth on the Owls career sack list.

Fangmeier had converted in each of the last four games of the 2006 season. He scored a total of four points on the night and now has 242, 19 away from passing Trevor Cobb and move into second on the Rice career list).
- Travis Bradshaw was credited with game-high matching 11 tackles, his sixth career double-figure tackle game. His career high for tackles is 12, which he did four times in 2008.
- Kyle Martens averaged 50 on nine punts to match his career high set last week vs. Vanderbilt and had five punts of better than 50 yards. He had six coming into tonight, including four last week. He had six punts of better than 50 yards in 2008.
- With 96 yards on four kickoff returns, Shane Turner moved into seventh place on the Rice season kickoff return yardage with 546 yards. Turner entered the night with 450 yards and passed Ja'Corey Shepherd (10th 473 in 2007) Clint Hatfield (9th 498 in 2001) and Vince Courville (8th 524 in 1982). Michael Perry is 6th with 596 in 1996.
- With a reception midway through the fourth quarter, Toren Dixon continued his current active streak to 31 consecutive games with a catch. Dixon went on to catch two passes for eight yards. Dixon entered the game tied for seventh on the NCAA's list for consecutive games with a reception.
