- Tonight's game was the 91st meeting between Texas and Rice University and the 57th played in Austin. The 97,201 in attendance marked the largest attendance to see a Rice game since playing at Michigan in 2000 (109,778 in the Big House).
- Rice game captains for the Texas game were QB Chase Clement, WR Jarett Dillard, DB Andrew Sendejo and DB Bencil Smith.
- Rice wide receiver Jarett Dillard caught his second of nine passes on the night during the Owls' 67-yard scoring drive to take a 3-0 lead. Dillard had 52 receiving yards by the middle of the first quarter en route to 158 yards. Dillard ran his streak of catching at least two passes to 40 games. It is the longest current of its kind in the nation.
- With 158 receiving yards, Dillard had 100+ receiving yards for the second time this season and the 11th time for his career. The 158 yards ranks as the senior's third-best career receiving performance. His career high is 171 yards against Army during his sophomore seasoin (2006).
- With 2:04 to play in the third quarter, Chase Clement hooked up with Jarett Dillard for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The play was the San Antonio duo's 38th all-time touchdown pass combination. The play left the duo one shy of the NCAA record of 39 set by Tim Rattay and Troy Edwards of Louisiana Tech.
- Dillard now has 46 career touchdown receptions. He needs one more TD reception to tie Marshall's Darius Watts for second and four to match the NCAA career mark set by Louisiana Tech's Edwards.
- Rice junior safety Andrew Sendejo recorded 13+ tackles for the third straight game. After 13 stops against both Memphis and Vanderbilt, Sendejo finished the Texas game with 17 tackles, one shy of a career mark. He had a career-high 18 tackles against Marshall last year. The Canyon Lake native had three double-figure tackle games in 2007.
- Jeramy Goodson's three-yard catch from Chase Clement in the first quarter was the junior running back's first career reception. The play also marked the 10th different receiver to catch a pass from Clement.
- With a five-yard reception against Texas, junior Toren Dixon has now caught at least one pass in 16 consecutive games played. Dixon missed last week's game with an injury. Against Texas, Dixon went on to catch two passes for nine yards.
- When Terrance Garmon chased down and caused Texas quarterback Jordan Chiles to fumble in the backfield, the third-quarter play led to freshman Arnaud Gascon-Nadon's first career defensive statistic, a fumble recovery that led to a Rice touchdown that cut the Longhorns' lead to 31-10 with 2:04 to play in the third quarter.
- True freshman John Gioffre also recorded his first career tackle during fourth quarter action.
- Clement pinned the Longhorns at their own one late in the first quarter with a 45-yard punt. It was his second punt of the year. Both punts were downed inside opponents' 20 (the other was a 25-yard punt against SMU in the fourth quarter of a 56-27 victory.
- When Clark Fangmeier drilled a 31-yard field goal with 7:47 to play in the first quarter to put the Owls in front 3-0, it was the first time Rice enjoyed an in-game lead in the series since jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the 1997 meeting (Sept. 27). Texas would go on to win the game played in Houston, 38-31.
