LAFAYETTE, La. - Tobias Scheil and Dennis Polyakov of the Rice men's tennis team waited through a rainy day before opening the fall season Friday with an impressive 8-4 doubles victory against Memphis' Spencer Heflin and Jorge Vazquez under the lights at the Ramada Inn-LCVC ULL Fall Invite.

The Owls had its fall opener, the Holiday Inn Astrodome Rice Invite, cancelled due to Hurricane Ike last weekend.

The win for Scheil and Polyakov places the pair into the quarterfinals of the A Doubles Flight. A full slate of action is on-tap for Saturday. Scheil, Polyakov and Vishnu Rajam are scheduled to compete in singles.
