SKILLMAN, N.J. - Bruno Rosa was selected ITA South Central Region Rookie of the Year Tuesday afternoon as announced by the governing body of collegiate tennis.
Rosa is automatically a finalist for the ITA's national award that will be announced May 20th.
"We're very proud of what our team and Bruno has been able to accomplish this season," head coach Ron Smarr said. "Bruno continued to get better on hard courts as the season progressed. We look for him to have a strong showing at the upcoming individual NCAA Singles Tournament."
The Brazilian opened his Rice career in impressive fashion stringing together 14-consecutive victories to start the spring season that included the 2008 National Collegiate Tennis Classic championship. He won C-USA Player of the Week four times en route to C-USA Newcomer of the Year honors.
Rosa notched an overall 24-6 record, including a 17-6 dual match mark with eight victories coming against nationally-ranked foes. He is currently ranked No. 14 by the ITA.
The Owls have Rosa along with top doubles pair Ralph Knupfer and Christoph Müller competing next week in the individual NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournaments.
