Rice Texas Bowl Saturday Gallery
The Rice Owls had a busy schedule on Saturday as they continue to prepare for the 2008 Texas Bowl.
They opened the day by having nearly 60 players attend the first FCA Texas Bowl Breakfast, which featured Pro Football Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews. Head coach David Bailiff and several players then met with the media, while at the same time Tyler Smith met Jamarko Simmons of Western Michigan in a video version of the 2008 Texas Bowl that will be shown during the game on Tuesday.
The Owls then hit the field for a practice session that began in periodic heavy rain and then concluded under bright sunshine.
"The unusual thing about today's practice was that we had a little Fall, a little Spring, a little Summer," Bailiff noted "It was amazing how many times the weather changed today. We altered our schedule because some storms were moving in. But I thought we came out and adjusted well to the change in the schedule. It takes a mature team to do that."
The Owls then headed down US 59 to meet members of Western Michigan in the 2008 Rodeo Bowl. Look for photos from that event later tonight.
