The Owls are currently ranked 22nd in the nation and fourth in the South Central Region behind Arkansas (No. 12), Baylor (No. 18), and SMU (No. 19). Running for head coach Jim Bevan's Rice Owls are Allison Pye, Nicole Mericle, Becky Wade, Lennie Waite, Britany Wiliams, Keltie John, and Laura Hudson.
Last year, No.16 Rice women made school history as it won the program's first NCAA South Central Regional Championship and claimed the automatic bid to the national meet as the Owls scored 54 points at Fayetteville, Ark.
Heading into last year's meet, the Owls ranked second in the region behind host and 10th-ranked Arkansas, but upset the Southeastern Conference champion Razorbacks on their home course.
