Warner & Delaloye Finish 1-2 In 500-Freestyle

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Fresh-off a 1-2 finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle on Friday night, Rice distance specialists Caitlin Warner and Nicole Delaloye placed first and second, respectively, in the 500-freestyle on Saturday's final day of the double-dual swim meet against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore. Sophomore Ashten Ackerman won the 400-individual medley and the Owls also won the 200-freestyle realy, but Oregon State won the meet by a final team score of 181-136.
Warner won the 500 with a time of 5:06.12 while Delaloye touched-in second place with a 5:08.55. Karen Gerken and Sarah Korellis were fourth and fifth in the event, respectively, giving the Owls four of the top five spots in the race.
Ackerman won the 400-IM in her first time to race in the event this season. The sophomore from Kissimmee, Florida, posted a 4:38.08. The Owls' foursome of Pam Zelnick, Skylar Craig, Erin Mattson and Carlyann Miller swam a 1:37.44 to take first in the sprint relay.
Oregon State won the two-day meet by taking 13 of the 17 events. The Owls fall to 1-2 in dual meets this season. Rice next faces crosstown rival Houston and New Mexico State in a double-dual meet on Nov. 6. The meet will be held at UH's Rec Center Natatorium.
