
Zelnick Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

IRVING, Tex. -- Rice University sophomore Pam Zelnick has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, league office announced Tuesday (Jan. 15) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Zelnick won her event in the Owls' swim meet last Friday (Jan. 11) against sixth-ranked Texas A&M. The Troy, Ohio, native won the 100-yard breaststroke with time of 1:07.08 to top six competitors. She also was third in the 100-freestyle and competed on the Owls' 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays. The C-USA Swimmer of the Week honor is the first of her career. SMU sophomore Britney Yancey was named the league's diver of the week.
The Rice swim team, 7-2 in dual meets this season, next competes at SMU in a conference clash on Friday (Jan. 18). Start time for the meet is set for 6 pm at the Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. The Owls will remain in the Dallas area to swim against the University of North Texas on Saturday at 11 am.
