The Rice baseball program has been mentioned prominently in two national preseason outlooks for 2008. Led by six preseason all-conference selections, including Cole St.Clair, Jordan Dodson, Aaron Luna, Jess Buenger, Matt Langwell and Ryan Berry, the Owls were again picked to be the top team in Conference USA according to Rivals.com. The on-line publication said "the Owls lead the charge" in one of the most improved league's in the country.
PING! Baseball tabbed Rice as the No. 11 preseason team in the nation in its expanded its coverage. The publication cites the Blue & Gray's "phenomenal pitching staff."
The 2008 Rice baseball season begins with the program's biennial varsity-alumni game on Feb. 2. The official season-opener is a big three-game weekend series on the road against Long Beach State beginning on Feb. 22.
