Rice's record setting passing duo of Jarett Dillard and Chase Clement lead a group of nine Rice players who have been honored as members of the various All-C-USA squads as determined in voting by members of the media who cover the conference.
Dillard, who led all conference receivers with 14 touchdowns and with 7.5 catches per conference game, was a repeat first team all conference selection, while Clement joined Robby Heos, Brian Raines and Andrew Sendejo as second team selections. At the same time, four Owl freshmen (James Casey, Scott Mitchell, Scott Solomon and Cheta Ozougwu) were selected to the league's all freshman team.
Clement led C-USA in total offense for conference games, averaging just over 389 yards per game in eight contests. He set a total of 18 school and three C-USA records this season and became the first player in NCAA history to record consecutive games with over 100 yards rushing and 300 yards passing in the Owls' wins over UTEP and SMU.
Heos is a repeat selection on the media's second team. The senior from Pearland finished his career by starting 34 of his last 35 games. Sendejo led the Owls in tackles (107) and interceptions (5) while Raines battle through the effects of a knee injury that sidelined him for the Houston game, finishing second on the squad with 81 tackles.
Casey finished fifth among receivers in league games with 45 catches and was named to Rivals.com's Freshman All America second team. Mitchell, who only signed with Rice in July, took over as the starting left tackle in the eighth week of the season and remained their the rest of the year. Solomon led the team with 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks and led the defensive line with 49 tackles. Ozougwu was seconds to Solomon among the linemen, finishing with 43 stops.
