Marissa Daniels was an impressive 14th individually to pace Rice's women's cross country team to a 13th-place finish at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational Saturday at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn. Daniels clocked 21:49 over the six-kilometer course to help the Owls score 392 points. Stephanie Rothstein took top honors at 21:13 to lead UC-Santa Barbara to the team title in a race that featured 31 of the top squads nationally.
Freshman Nicole Mericle was 52nd for Rice at 22:38, and Callie Wells placed 54th with a time of 22:41. The Owls also had Lennie Waite in 132nd at 23:51 and Laura Kelley 140th at 24:00 to round out the scoring. Susie Barrows (150th) and Britany Williams (166th) were the other Rice finishers in the 288-person field.
The Owls return to action Friday at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational.
