St. Paul, Minn. -
Junior Marissa Daniels will lead a strong Rice women's team at Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational cross country meet, as the Owls face some of the top teams in the nation. Daniels, who won the Rice Invitational two weeks ago to open the season, has two straight trips to the NCAA national meet to her credit and will be looking for a top-20 individual finish at the 21st annual event, held on the Les Bolstad golf course in St. Paul, Minn.
"We had a strong team effort to open the year at our home meet," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "We have quite a few newcomers to go with our strong group of returners, so it will be a good chance to see how they match up with the rest of the country."
The Owls will compete in the Jack Johnson Memorial Gold six-kilometer race, slated to start at 12:10 pm. The race includes top squads from Arizona State, Baylor, Marquette and host Minnesota among the 30-team elite field. Nine of the teams entered were NCAA national qualifiers last year, with Arizona State placing fourth.
