Jarett Dillard, who re-wrote the Rice receiving record book while leading the team to its first bowl game in 45 years and earning himself a spot as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, was named to the All C-USA first team in a vote of the league's coaches that was relesed today.
Dillard was the only Owl selected to the first team, while Courtney Gordon and Brian Raines were named to the second team. Quinton Smith, Robby Heos and deep snapper Drew Clardy were named to the third team, while 13 other Owls received Honorable Mention designation: Chase Clement, Austin Wilkinson, Lute Barber, Joel Armstrong, Tommy Henderson, George Chukwu, DeJaun Cooper, William Wood, Marcus Rucker, Andray Downs, Brandon King, Ja'Corey Shepherd, Chad Price and Clark Fangmeier.
Fangmeier was also honored by the coaches as part of their All C-USA Freshman team, and was joined by linebacker Terrance Garmon.
Dillard set a conference record by catching 20 touchdown passes this year, and added Rice season records for receptions (82) and yardage (1,176). A finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, he tied the NCAA record by catching a touchdown pass in 12 consecutive games in a season, and his overall streak of 14 games is the second longest in NCAA history. He has already set the Rice career record for touchdown catches (25 in 23 games). He was twice named the league's Offensive Player of the Week.
He will travel to Orlando, Fl on Thursday night for the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN2. The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be announced during the show.
