Sorry I missed last night, but it was a busy last night before we got up this morning to head to New Orleans.
The Extra Point Club had a going away dinner for us last night, and I never thought I would see something like that for us, especially after the way things ended last year. The place was packed, that's the first time I have seen that many people in the R Room for anything other than some kind of meeting. It was kind of a treat to know that we made such a big turnaround in one year. It was kind of sad to think it was our last one, but it was a happy moment to know that the work we had put in could bring that many people out. It's nice to feel like we might have started something pretty special.
After the dinner, the seniors were all asked to come down to Willy's Pub for a send off from some students. Now that is something I never thought would have happened, students wanting to send us off and wish us luck.
This is a different kind of trip compared to all the other ones we have been on, since we are actually settling in for a couple of days. I might have taken that too literally and the lunch I had kind of messed me up at practice. It was great food, but I think I ate too much and that didn't mix too well with practice.
It's also nice that since this is a bowl trip, we have everyone who has been working with us all year, and not just the normal travel party. It's a nice thing for them, because they have put in a lot of work as well.
We were given our bowl watches today. I can remember as a kid looking at my Dad's Cotton Bowl watch. This one is not a Cotton Bowl watch, but it's neat, and it's mine and that means a lot.
We have some free time the next two nights, which is another thing you never really have on a regular season trip. We also have a bunch of team functions and it is nice. I keep thinking that this is the last time I will be around these guys as a group, so it's nice to have organized things to do together.
Well, it's time to go bowling at the team event and then enjoy some of that free time. We'll check back tomorrow....I promise
