Tonight we wrapped up the Houston portion of practices, which also was the last time any of the seniors will practice on this field. The next time we walk on to this field, we'll be ex-players. It's kind of a bittersweet thought, that we won't be playing or practicing on this field again. It's a good thing, because practice can be drudgery and go on and on. But it's also a sad thing because it has been a big part of my life. The best thing is that while we won't practice ever again at Rice Stadium, we still have a couple more days of practice left, because we are going to a bowl game. It's been 45 years since a senior at Rice could say his final practices were not at Rice stadium, and that's nice to be able to say that.
It was decided that the seniors should not walk off the field for the last time, so the underclassmen at each position had to carry the seniors off. Some of the position groups were really struggling getting their guys off the field, but the offensive linemen got me up on their shoulders and got me off the field in pretty good shape.
Having a game to play this late in December means that I haven't really given Christmas much of a thought. So if any of my friends and family are reading this, I haven't been shopping so I am going to be late with presents. Actually, I'm late every year anyway, I just have a better excuse this year.
