2006 All-Conference USA Awards
HOUSTON -- Conference USA announced the volleyball postseason awards on Wednesday, and Rice's Tessa Kuykendall received all-conference second team honors while Natalie Bogan was named to the all-freshman team.
For Kuykendall, a senior from Brighton, Mich., the award marked the third-straight season for her to receive all-conference honors. She was named to the C-USA third team in 2005 and was a member of the all-Western Athletic Conference first team in 2004.
In 2006 Kuykendall led the Owls in C-USA action with 1.21 blocks per game to rank fifth in the league. She also averaged 2.96 kills per game in league play. Kuykendall is the only Owl to earn C-USA offensive player of the week honors, being recognized on Sept. 11 after leading Rice to an upset of then-21st ranked Arizona. Also this season, Kuykendall became the Owls' all-time blocking leader as she has brought her career total to 541.
