Marissa Daniels placed 14th overall to lead Rice's women's cross country team to a sixth-place team finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships Saturday at the Cottonwood Creek golf course near Waco. The Owls tallied 174 points, with Arkansas taking top team honors with 30 points.
Daniels, the Conference USA runner-up two weeks ago, covered the six-kilometer course in 21:03. SMU's Rachel Forish, who beat Daniels at the C-USA meet, was the individual champion in 20:31.
Other top finishers for Rice were freshman Nicole Mericle, who was 23rd in 21:38, and Laura Kelley, who was 43rd in 22:26. Rounding out the Owls' scorers were Lennie Waite (44th in 22:28), Britany Williams (50th in 22:39), Susie Barrows (51st in 22:39) and Lea Garcia (65th in 23:14).
