The second day of the Rice Tennis Classic was marked by solid play in both singles and doubles by Rice and Georgia Tech.
Rebecca Linn of Rice defeated Whitney McCray of Georgia Tech 6-4, 7-5 in gray flight singles during the semi-finals round. Also in singles, Veronica Sagastegui earned a solid Ricevictory over Camille Whittingham of Prarie View A&M, 6-3, 6-3. The doubles team of Dominque Karas and Kimberly Petenaued added to Rice wins with a 8-0 victory over the Prairie View A&M team of Charli Cooksey and Margaret Banks.
Georgia Tech's Amanda McDowell and Amanda Craddock dominated in first flight singles semi-finals d setting up a all Georgia Tech finals match to be played tomorrow. McDowell beat SMU's Natalia Bubien 6-3, 6-4 and Craddock won against BU's Iva Mihaylova in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Yellow Jackets also did well in doubles play with the team of McCray and Craddock narrowly defeating Owls Julie Chao and Tiffany Lee in a close 9-8 (4).
