Owls Fall To Green Wave

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -Lester Ricard passed for 344 yards and four touchdowns and Matt Forte rushed for 178 yards and scored two touchdowns as Tulane defeated Rice 38-24 in a Conference USA game Saturday afternoon in the Louisiana Superdome.
The win was the first in the Superdome for the Green Wave (2-3 and 1-2 Conference USA) since a 45-31 triumph against Army on Nov. 13, 2004. Tulane could not play in the Superdome last season because of the damage Hurricane Katrina did to the stadium.
Ricard completed 21-of-40 and threw scoring passes of eight yards to Forte, 21 yards to Jeremy Williams, 27 yards to Brian King and 21 yards to Kenneth Guidroz.
Forte had 19 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and caught four passes for 57 yards.
Ricard threw three touchdown passes as the Green Wave took a 24-10 halftime lead.
Rice (1-5, 0-2) took the second-half kickoff and drove 81 yards, scoring a touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Chase Clement to Jarett Dillard. That marked the eighth consecutive game in which Dillard caught a touchdown pass, matching the longest such streak in Division I-A.
After the Owls missed a field goal, Forte broke free for a 64-yard run to the Owls' 1-yard line and scored a touchdown from there two plays later.
Clement threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Joel Armstrong to get Rice within 31-24 late in the third quarter, but the Green Wave concluded the scoring on Ricard's touchdown to Forte with 12:22 remaining in the game.
Tulane drove to a touchdown on the game's opening possession, scoring on a 21-yard pass from Ricard to Williams.
Rice tied the score later in the quarter when Clement ran three yards for a touchdown. Ricard came right back and put the Green Wave back on top with a 27-yard touchdown pass to King.
Rice's Clark Fangmeier made a 25-yard field goal and Tulane's Ross Thevenot kicked a 45-yarder to give the Green Wave a 17-10 lead with 8:39 left in the second quarter.
Moments later, Ricard threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Guidroz for a 24-10 lead.
