
Rice Makes Final Home Stand Against SMU, Tulsa

HOUSTON -- The Rice volleyball team will make its final home appearances of 2006 this weekend at Autry Court as the Owls host SMU on Friday at 7 pm then Conference USA leader Tulsa on Sunday at 1 pm.
The weekend marks the final home appearances of senior Tessa Kuykendall, who needs just seven total blocks to become Rice's all-time block leader. Heading into Friday's tussle with the Mustangs, Kuykendall has 514 total blocks in her career, 99 solo blocks and 415 block assists. The Owls' current all-time leader is Briana Cook (1999-2002), who recorded 520 during her distinguished career. Kuykendall is averaging 1.11 blocks per game this season.
At 13-12 and 4-7 in C-USA play, SMU is tied with Rice in the league standings. Tulsa is 22-5 overall and 9-2 in C-USA, a game ahead of Marshall.
The Owls have one more regular season match slated in Houston, travel to the UH Alumni Center for a rematch with the Cougars next Thursday at 7 pm. UH also hosts the 2006 C-USA Volleyball Championship at Hofheinz Pavilion, Nov. 16-19.
