Owls Finish at Midland Invitational

MIDLAND, Texas -- The Rice women's tennis team lost a pair of matches on Saturday to end the Owls' stay at the Midland Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas.
In doubles, Tiffany Lee and Julie Chao had a tough challenge, facing the 31st-ranked pair of Iva Gersic and Lucy Scott of New Mexico in the main draw. The Lobos won the bout 8-4.
Playing in the consolation draw quarterfinals, Emily Braid fell to LSU's Staten Spencer 6-2, 6-2.
"Overall, this was a good tournament for us," noted head coach Roger White. "The team continued to show improvement, and this really helped us prepare for regionals next weekend."
The Owls next head to Fort Worth for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southwest Region Championships, Oct. 19-23.
