
Yale Beats Rice, 70-67

Houston - Yale guard Eric Flato had 14 points and Dominick Martin scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Bulldogs over the Rice Owls 70-67 in front of 1,687 fans at Autry Court.
Flato made four of six three-point attempts including the trey that gave Yale the lead for good to make it 64-63 at the 4:54 mark. Martin's basket on Yale's next possession pushed the lead to three.
The Owls were behind 61-53 when they went on a 10-0 capped by Cory Pflieger's three-pointer that gave Rice a 63-61 lead prior to Flato's three-point basket.
The Owls had two three-point attempts under 10 seconds, when down 70-67, to tie the game but Morris Almond's trey at the 8 second mark did connect and Lorenzo Williams' attempt with two seconds left did not go in.
Yale (7-6) was down one (16-15) early in the first half, but a 9-0 run gave it a 24-16 lead. The Bulldogs were ahead by nine, 36-27, but Rice battled back and outscored Yale 10-2 to close the half down one, 38-37.
The Bulldogs were able to execute its offense by shooting 60 percent in the first half and 44 percent in the second to finish the night at 52 percent. Yale also converted 9-14 from beyond the arc and outrebounded the Owls 37-28.
Rice shot 42 percent from the field, but only 20 percent (4-20) from three-point range.
Patrick Britton scored a career-high 16 points to lead Rice (5-7). His previous best was 11 this season vs. Utah. Morris Almond added 14 points, while J.R. Harrison scored 11 points. Lorenzo Williams had 10 assists and 9 points.
Rice now hosts Princeton on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7:05 pm at Autry Court.
