
Rice Beats Princeton, 52-41

Houston - Morris Almond scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a game-high 7 rebounds to lead the Rice Owls (6-7) past visiting Princeton 52-41 in front of 2,156 fans. Rice is now 1-1 all-time vs. Princeton.
Lorenzo Williams tallied 12 points and 8 assists, while J.R. Harrison canned 11 points for Rice.
The Owls scored the first 7 points of the second half to forge a 31-19 lead, but the Tigers charged right back with an 11-4 run of their own to cut it to 32-30, but Almond buried a three-pointer, then Princeton cut it to two again with a trey by Noah Savage. But, Almond again nailed a long bomb to ignite a 7-0 run by the Owls.
For the night, Morris Almond made his first 5 shots and scored 11 points in the first half on 5-6 shooting. He was equally efficient in the second stanza by making 3 of 5 attempts to finish the night 8-11 (73 percent).
Rice made 51.4 percent from the field (18-35) and 5-9 from three-point range (.556). Princeton (2-10) meanwhile made 14-45 shots (31 percent) and shot 29 three-pointers, making only 9 (31 percent). The Owls did outrebound the Tigers 31-21.
Princeton was led in scoring by Luke Owings (11 points) and Edwin Buffmire tallied 10.
Rice now hosts Houston on Wed., Jan. 11 for its first-ever Conference USA game. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm at Autry Court.
This game is TRUE BLUE OUT night, so all Rice fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing navy blue colored apparel.
Furthermore, Rice fans will have an opportunity to meet the Owls' new head football coach, Todd Graham, and his staff prior to the game in Fox Gymnasium (adjacent to Autry Court) beginning at 5 pm. Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.
