
Rice Falls to Houston 35-18

HOUSTON (AP) - Kevin Kolb became Houston's all-time offensive leader as the Cougars beat cross-town rival Rice 35-18 on Saturday, earning bowl eligibility.
Kolb completed 16 of 25 passes for 222 yards and one score and rushed 11 times for 75 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Evans scored twice on short runs for the Cougars (6-5, 4-4 Conference USA), who claimed the Bayou Bucket with the win.
Rice (1-10, 1-7) produced the game's first score with Quinton Smith's 10-yard run at 9:53 of the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Rice widened its advantage to 10-0 when Luke Juist kicked a 21-yard field goal.
Houston marched 98 yards in nine plays to trim the lead to 10-7 on a 4-yard run by Kolb with 10:06 left in the first half. Evans' 4-yard touchdown run at 4:17 of the second quarter gave the Cougars a 14-10 lead.
Ryan Gilbert scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter and Evans scored again with 1:52 left in the third for a 28-10 Houston lead.
Kolb also completed an 80-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Marshall.
With a second-quarter completion, Kolb became the Cougars' all-time total offense leader, surpassing 9,327 yards by quarterback David Klingler (1988-91).
Kolb now has 9,530 all-purpose yards for his career.
