Houston - Fullback John Wall is the first Rice football player to earn a Conference USA player of the week award, the league office announced Monday.
Wall, a sophomore from Dallas (Jesuit Prep.), won the C-USA offense honor after his 156-yard, three-touchdown effort in the Owls' 42-34 win over Tulane Saturday. The victory broke a 14-game losing streak for Rice.
Wall scored on 25-, 75- and one-yard runs. His 75-yarder was the longest by an Owl back since Marcus Rucker had an 86-yard TD run last season at San Jose State. His 156 total yards made him the 24th Owl to gain at least 100 yards in a game during Ken Hatfield's Rice coaching tenure.
Rice, now 1-8 overall and 1-5 in its first season in C-USA, ends its home schedule Saturday by hosting UCF at 2 pm in historic Rice Stadium
