Three Named Academic All-District

Houston - Three Rice Owls have earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors and are now eligible for Academic All-America awards. Senior defensive end John Syptak, junior defensive back Matt Ginn and junior receiver Andy Hall are on the District VI team announced Friday.
Syptak and Ginn are repeat honorees, while this is the first time Hall has been honored in the voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Syptak, from Bellville, was the Conference USA preseason defensive player of the year and has started all eight Rice games this season. He leads the Owls with three sacks and eight tackles for loss, and is second on the squad with 45 tackles.
Ginn, who played his high school football at Arlington High, started the Owls' first six games before being sidelined by injury. He was credited with 23 tackles during his shortened season.
Hall, from Scottsdale, Ariz.'s Saguaro High, has caught four passes for 34 yards, including a 15-yard TD pass at SMU.
The Owls host Tulane in Rice's 2005 Homecoming game Saturday at 2 pm in historic Rice Stadium.
