Owls Suffer 3-0 Loss To Tulsa

HOUSTON -- Rice suffered a 30-20, 30-23, 30-28 loss at the hands of Tulsa on Friday in Conference USA action at Autry Court.
Senior Olaya Pazo led the Owls with 14 kills and 20 digs on the night, while junior Tessa Kuykendall added 12 kills. Senior Kristina Hoban posted 34 assists and 10 digs against the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa jumped out early in both games one and two, grabbing the momentum and taking a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Rice came out strong in game three and, after four early ties, built a four-point lead. The Hurricane recovered and a kill from Germana Hilario sparked a 6-0 run that gave Tulsa the lead for good. The Owls didn't give up and closed the gap to one on three occasions down the stretch, the last off a kill from Kuykendall to hold off match point. Hilario scored again for Tulsa to give her team the win.
The loss drops the Owls to 9-4 on the year and 1-2 in C-USA, while the Hurricane improves to 15-2 overall and 2-1 in C-USA.
Rice is back in action Saturday night, hosting SMU at Autry Court in a 7 pm C-USA match.
