DiSesa, Rodgers Upset Top Doubles Seed at Regionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Blair DiSesa and freshman Alanna Rodgers upset the top-seeded doubles tandem on Monday afternoon to advance to the semifinals at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships in College Station.

DiSesa and Rodgers, seeded fifth in the tournament, eliminated Texas A&M's 23rd-ranked duo of Sarah Foster and Anna Lubinsky 8-5 in Monday's quarterfinal action. The Owls next face TCU's Helena Besovic and Anna Sydorska, seeded 13th in the tournament, for a shot at the regional crown. The regional doubles champions receive an automatic bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships in November.

In main draw singles action on Monday, DiSesa and sophomore Dominique Karas both lost their quarterfinal matches. The ninth-seeded DiSesa fell 6-0, 6-2 to Besovic, seeded third. Karas battled her third seeded opponent of the tournament, number-10 Klara Zrustova, in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss.

In the singles consolations draws, newcomer Tiffany Lee scored a pair of straight-set victories, dropping Lata Assundi of Sam Houston State 6-4, 6-1, then defeating Lauren Seamen of LSU 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Christine Dao opened the day with 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 win against Cigdem Duru of Texas Tech before suffering a 6-4, 6-4 loss to the Raiders' Tara Browning.
