DiSesa Leads Owls at Regional Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Blair DiSesa won her opening round singles match and advanced the round of 16 in doubles to lead Rice on Saturday at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships in College Station.
DiSesa, seeded ninth in the main singles draw began the day with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Texas Tech's Samantha Van der Drift to move into Sunday's round of 32. DiSesa then joined freshman Alanna Rodgers for an 8-5 win against the Red Raiders' Erin Hunter and Katja Kovacic.
Also in singles, sophomore Dominique Karas scored a big win on Saturday as the unseeded Owl upset sixth-seeded Anna Lubinsky of Texas A&M 7-6 (12), 6-4 in the opening round.
In the doubles back draw, senior Medeja Egic and sophomore Kimberley Patenaude defeated Louisiana-Lafayette's Kimmie Lyles and Chanell Meijer 8-6.
