Houston - Joe Don Wood's hamstring problems have kept him out of the Owls' first four games, but the senior may be ready for double duty Saturday against Tulsa.
"Joe Wood is going to play," said coach Ken Hatfield following Wednesday's practice. "He definitely will at both tight end and fullback; he's worked at both positions."
The senior from Crandell was the Owls' starting tight end during the 2004 season, but he made a successful switch to fullback in the spring. Then the hamstring injuries popped up. With only one healthy tight end on the current roster (Will Moss), Wood has become a reliable backup.
The Owls will open their home season Saturday (3 pm) against Tulsa. The game will not be televised and the radio broadcast will switch to KTRU (91.7 FM) due to scheduling conflicts with the Astros' National League championship series with St. Louis.
