HOUSTON ? The Rice men?s and women?s cross country teams posted the top four times in each race to take the team titles at the 30th annual Rice Invitational Saturday on the university campus.

Leading the way for the women on the 4K course was junior Kate Gorry. The all-Western Athletic Conference honoree posted a 13:00.96 to lead the Owls. Clocking in second was newcomer Marissa Daniels in 13:17.95, followed by freshman Laura Kelley (13:54.96) and junior Anna Reeve (14:01.06). Rice placed seven in the top 15 to total 19 points. Trinity University was second with 50 points, followed by Houston (60) and Texas Southern (119)

For the men, veteran Marcel Hewamudalige crossed the finish in 11:07.43, leading a contingent of Rice runners who finished first through fourth. The 2003 WAC freshman of the year, Stephen Magness, finished second in 11:13.38, followed by senior Adam Davis and Aaron Robson, respectively. The Rice men took seven of the top 10 finishes, totaling 15 points. Trinity University was second with 58 points and Texas Southern took third with 71 points.

The women will first race at Texas A&M on Sept. 18th before joining the men in Corpus Christi on Oct. 1 for the Islander Opener Splash.
