Cross Country: Four Qualify for NCAA Championships

HOUSTON ? The NCAA men?s and women?s track and field committee announced selections for the 2004 cross country championships, and Rice qualified three men?s runners and a freshman on the women?s side for the Nov. 22 race.

Western Athletic Conference champion, Marcel Hewamudalige, is one of three Rice men to qualify for the meet. Joining him in Terre Haute, Ind., next Monday will be Stephen Magness and Scott Loftin. The trio helped Rice win the WAC title last month, the second conference championship in four years.

On the women?s side, freshman Marissa Daniels will be Rice?s lone representative at the national meet. The rookie has been a mainstay in Rice?s lineup this season, finishing in the top 10 in four different meets, and was among the top-40 at the pre-nationals meet earlier this month.
