Women's Cross Country: Gorry Earns WAC Accolades, Again

DENVER, Colo. ? Rice?s Kate Gorry has once again been named the Western Athletic Conference women?s cross country athlete of the week, the league office announced Monday.

Gorry, a junior from Houston (St. John?s School), posted a seventh place finish against some of the nation?s top collegiate runners at the 2004 NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind.. She was the top WAC finisher in the meet, posting a time of 20:47.6 on the 6K course. Gorry finished five seconds out of sixth place and was 22 seconds behind the winner.

Gorry?s other WAC athlete of the week honor came after the opening meet of the season when she took home the title at the Rice Invitational.

Gorry and the Owls will look for another WAC title October 30 in Ruston, La., at the WAC cross country championships.
