HOUSTON -- Last week, injuries to starter Corey Evans and backup Kyle Herm forced Ben Wulf into the role of starting quarterback when Rice faced 16th-ranked Oklahoma in Norman.
This week, with Evans and Herm back to near full speed, the starter in Saturday's WAC game at San Jose State will be... Ben Wulf.
"Ben is definitely the starter, and then we'll play it by ear from there," said head coach Ken Hatfield following Wednesday's workout. "The good part about it, unlike last when when Corey only practiced one day in shorts, is that all three got a lot of repetitions this week."
Wulf, who spent the spring and preseason working at running back, completed six of 12 passes for 112 yards for 117 yards and one touchdown at OU last week, while Evans was the Owls' leading rusher with 55 yards and one TD on 12 carries.
Rice enters Saturday's game at 1-3 and 0-1 in the WAC, while San Jose State comes into its league opener at 2-2 on the season. Game time at Spartan Stadium in San Jose is 2:30 pm (CDT).
