Waite set the pace and finished well ahead of the field with a time of 18:47 on the 5K course, while teammate Shannon Murto finished second for the second straight race with a time of 19:11. Rice took the five through nine spots to wrap up the team victory, and the freshmen continue to run well as Whitney McAlpine and Magdalena Sandoval finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Marisa Bono placed seventh, Liza Ruckman eighth and Summer Bell finished ninth.
The University of Houston finished second behind Monica Reyna's fourth-place showing, and host University of Texas-San Antonio finished third behind Anita Gonzalez's third-place finish.
The Owls' next meet is the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 7 in Bethlehem, Pa.
