Rice Men, Women Win at WAC Championships

The Rice men continued their strong doubles play to grab the first point of the match. Senior Kevin Hargrove and freshman Matthias Mathaes beat Lincoln Leeder and Amandeep Singh 8-4 at number two doubles, as newcomers Alexis Pourchet and Cody Jackson teamed up to defeat Reginaldo Maralejo and Malino Oda 8-6 at number three. The Owls then won four of five singles matches, led by Pourchet's 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of Singh at number two, to secure the win.
On the women's side, seniors Elle Lewis and Charlotte Feasby led the Owls as they swept through the Spartans in singles. Lewis defeated Marta Zivanov 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot, while Feasby grabbed a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Anna Nordell at number two. With the outcome decided in singles, doubles were not played.
The Rice women next face Hawaii in the consolation bracket finals Sunday at 9 am.
