Swimming: Williams Leads Owls at WAC Championships

Rice finished third, collecting 582.5 points from just the swimming events. The Owls don't compete in diving and were unable to overcome the 227 points Hawaii collected on the boards to move into second place. Southern Methodist won the title with 886.5 points as Hawaii finished second with 675.5 points.
Williams took the crown in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:03.37, and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:16.50 and the 400-yard individual medley at 4:21.97. Both times were met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and the 200 breast is a Rice record.
Kathryn Scholl touched the wall second in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:47.18 and her time of 10:01.66 in the 1,000-yard split is a school record. Scholl earned all-WAC honors in the 500- and the 1,650-yard freestyle events. Also tabbing all-conference was April Martin for her second-place, 2:03.01 finish in the 200-yard backstroke.
