Cross Country: Hendricksen Named WAC Athlete of the Week

DENVER (Sept. 7) Rice junior Tyson Hendricksen (Kingwood) was named the Western
Athletic Confernece men's cross country athlete of the week, the league
office announced Tuesday.
Hendricksen teamed with classmate Lachlan McArthur (Melbourne, Australia) to win the men's eight-mile race at the Rice Cross Country Relays, Sept. 3 at a course along Buffalo Bayou.
The Rice tandem finished the relay in 37 minutes, 12 seconds. Each relay participant ran four miles, alternating every two miles. Hendricksen recorded two-mile splits of 9:05 and 9:15, proving to be the fastest Owl on the course.
The WAC women's cross country athlete of the week was Fride Vallum of Tulsa.
The Rice men's and women's teams next compete Sept. 18, when they host the annual Rice Invitational on the Rice campus.
