Rice Men's Pair Win at Rice Relays
9/3/1999 12:00:00 AM | Men's Cross Country
The Rice tandem won the men's eight-mile race in a time of 37 minutes, 12 seconds, while the Baylor pair were the first university representatives to cross the finish line in the women's six-mile race in a time of 32:14. The duo was third overall following two groups of unattached competitors.
This relay event is unusual in cross country. Each school entered multiple two-person relay teams from both the men's and women's teams. Members of each men's relay ran a distance of four miles and alternated in two-mile segments. Members of each women's relay ran a distance of three miles, each alternating every 1.5 miles.
Both Rice teams are now off until Sept. 18, when they host the annual Rice Invitational on the Rice campus.
