Volleyball: Owls Fall In Four To TCU

Kelly Smith and Leigh Leman posted 44 of the Owls' 66 kills, as Leman netted a career-best 21 and Smith landed a team-high 23. Smith and Leman provided the defensive spark as well, with Smith digging 17 TCU attacks, and Leman sticking 29 digs, one short of her personal best of 30. Mariel Davenport Pollock quarterbacked the Owls with 29 assists, and Klara Zelinka recorded a well-rounded seven kills, six assists, 12 digs and six blocks.
For the Horned Frogs, Lindsay Hayes paved the way setting up 75 assists, allowing four TCU hitters to collect double-digit kills. Marci King led the attack with 26 kills and added 20 digs to the defensive effort.
Both Rice and TCU were successful at the net, with each side knocking down 13 blocks, but struggled from behind the line as the Horned Frogs missed 18 serves and the Owls missed 10.
The win improved TCU's record to 10-19 on the season and 4-9 in the WAC, as Rice dropped to 11-22, and 2-11 in league play.
The Owls will play their final match of the season Saturday when they face SMU in Dallas at 5:30 pm.
