HONOLULU - The Rice volleyball team fell victim to national powerhouse
Hawaii Thursday night, losing to the Rainbow Wahine 1-15, 0-15, 8-15.
The Owls couldn't mount an offensive attack over the Wahine block as they amassed just 14 kills in the entire match. Klara Zelinka collected the only kill in the second game, as the Owls were shutout for the first time since 1996. Leigh Leman and Kelly Smith were the kill leaders for Rice posting four kills apiece, as Smith captured the school record for season attempts with 1,362.
The Wahine knocked down 15 blocks and hit .250 against the Owls. Heather Bown hit .529, notching a team-high 11 kills and 10 blocks. The win clinched the WAC title for Hawaii for the second consecutive season.
The Owls will wrap up the season next week when they travel to face TCU on Friday and SMU on Saturday.
