Volleyball: Owls Fall To San Jose State

Houston The Rice volleyball team lost its eighth Western Athletic Conference match of the season, falling to San Jose State 12-15, 1-15, 15-7 Thursday night.
Kelly Smith and Klara Zelinka each posted double-doubles for Rice, with Smith notching a team high 11 kills and 10 digs, and Zelinka recording 10 kills and 10 digs. Mariel Davenport Pollock added 20 assists, and Elizabeth Davenport Pollock knocked down five blocks.
For the Spartans, Joslynn Gallop hit .364 with 20 kills and 19 digs. Darcy Walker swung 414, swatting 15 kills and just three errors. San Jose State hit .298 and had four players with double-digit kills.
The Spartans improve to 22-4 on the season and 8-2 in the WAC, and the Owls drop to 11-19 on the year and 2-8 in league play.
Rice will be in action on Saturday at 5 pm at Autry Court, when it takes on Fresno State in the last home match of the season.
