Volleyball: Rice Drops To TCU

Four Owls collected double-doubles, paced by Kelly Smith with 19 kills and 18 digs, and Leigh Leman with 19 kills and 19 digs. Klara Zelinka added 16 kills and collected a career-high 23 digs. Rice out-served the Horned Frogs with 11 total aces and only six errors to TCU's five aces and eight errors. Smith led the serving attack, launching a career-best five aces, and Leman continued the trend, dropping three. Soleil Thonand Mariel Davenport Pollock quarterbacked the Owls, putting up 28 assists each.
For TCU, five Horned Frogs posted double-digit kills as Bethany Toce led the attack with 16. Setter Lindsay Hayes put up 60 assists, and Katie Kieffer recorded seven blocks.
The Horned Frogs improve their season record to 8-14, and climb to 2-5 in the WAC. The Owls fall to 10-16 and 1-7 in the conference.
Rice will take a break from conference play on Wednesday, when it takes on city rival, Houston, at 7:30 pm at Autry Court.
